Determiner — much/many, few/little
সহজ করে বুঝি
few আর a few — মাঝখানে ছোট্ট একটা ‘a’, কিন্তু অর্থ সম্পূর্ণ উল্টো। এটাই পরীক্ষার প্রিয় ফাঁদ।
‘a few friends’ মানে কিছু বন্ধু আছে (ইতিবাচক), আর ‘few friends’ মানে প্রায় কোনো বন্ধুই নেই (নেতিবাচক)। ‘the few friends’ মানে যে কজন আছে তারা সবাই।
একই খেলা little-এর ক্ষেত্রেও: a little hope = কিছুটা আশা আছে; little hope = আশা নেই বললেই চলে।

- He has few friends. (বন্ধু নেই বললেই চলে — নেতিবাচক)
- He has a few friends. (কিছু বন্ধু আছে — ইতিবাচক)
- The few friends he has are loyal. (যে কজন আছে, তারা সবাই)
- There is little water in the glass. (পানি নেই বললেই চলে)
- There is a little water in the glass. (কিছুটা পানি আছে)
