অধ্যায় ১৬
Sentence, Clause & Transformation
গঠন অনুযায়ী বাক্য তিন প্রকার — Simple, Complex ও Compound। এদের একটিকে অন্যটিতে রূপান্তরই Transformation, যা BCS সিলেবাসে সরাসরি উল্লেখ আছে।
Clause ও বাক্যের প্রকার
সহজ করে বুঝি
Clause মানে এমন শব্দগুচ্ছ যার নিজস্ব subject ও verb আছে। এটাই বাক্যের ইট।
যে clause একা দাঁড়াতে পারে সে Principal (Main) Clause; যে অন্যের ওপর নির্ভর করে সে Subordinate Clause।
এবার বাক্য চেনা সহজ: একটাই finite verb থাকলে Simple; principal + subordinate থাকলে Complex; দুটো principal clause and/but/or দিয়ে জোড়া থাকলে Compound। ক্লজ গুনতে পারলেই বাক্যের নাম বেরিয়ে আসে।
Subordinate Clause-এর তিন প্রকার
| Clause | কাজ | চেনার উপায় | উদাহরণ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Noun Clause | Noun-এর কাজ করে | that/what/why দিয়ে শুরু | I know that he is honest. |
| Adjective Clause | Noun-কে বিশেষিত করে | who/which/that দিয়ে শুরু | The man who came is my uncle. |
| Adverbial Clause | Verb-কে বিশেষিত করে | when/where/if/because/though | He came when I was reading. |
Adverbial clause-এর উপপ্রকার: time, place, cause, purpose, result, condition, comparison, concession।

| Complex | Principal + Subordinate clause | Though he is poor, he is honest. |
| Compound | দুই বা ততোধিক principal clause | He is poor but he is honest. |
